PS3 Firmware 2.70 announced

April 2, 2009 by Trey

The Playstation blog was just updated announcing that firmware version 2.70 will be released “soon”.  (Er, Greg tels me its out now.) The firmware boasts such innovative features as text chat with up to 15 of your friends. The ability to sort your friends list in many different ways, and the ever so impressive backing up video feeds!

Honestly Sony, I love the PS3 for its ability to have non-proprietary peripherals, the PSN store, how well it works hand in hand with my PSP, but text chat? Lets pull something out of this century, instead of rehashing the 90’s IRC phase all over again.

Notoriety Sooner Than You Thought

March 6, 2009 by Greg

Sony announced on their blog today that InFamous will be releasing this June.  They also revealed the box art and confirmed that there will be a demo released for the game, though no date was given for that.

Checkout the box art over on Sony’s blog.

We’ll be able to find out a whole lot easier soon, as Sony is finally adding the ability to view your trophies online.  The update goes live tomorrow (Tuesday, 3/3/09) and looks to offer a very easy view of all relevant trophy information.  They plan to expand this further later on, adding other options such as the ability to compare your trophies to someone else.

PSP Drought Over

February 24, 2009 by Greg

Today Sony announced several major franchises that are making their way to the PSP this year.  Titles are not ports of existing games but instead unique PSP-exclusive entries.  They include LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Assassin’s Creed and Rock Band.

In addition to this, Atlus announced today a port of the PSOne classic Persona – yes, the original.  In typical Atlus fashion, this promises to be far from a straight port – they say among other changes the game will feature a completely redone localization & content never before seen in North America.

You can read further details on the Persona story at Atlus’ site, and read up more details on the rest over on Sony’s blog.

Game & A Movie?

February 11, 2009 by Greg

Sony announcd today in an interview with VideoBusiness.com that they are planning to start producing movie/game hybrid disks later this year.  If priced correctly, I’m all for this idea.  Using the storage space of a blu-ray disk to combine a game with the movie it’s based on seems like a great marketing idea.  If done correctly, this should not only boost game sales but should also showcase the PS3 as more than just a game machine and in turn move more systems.

Now let’s see a PS3 price drop, eh Sony?
